JOB TITLE:                               DESIGN ENGINEER I (prior to licensure)

LOCATION:                             WATERTOWN, NEW YORK

 

SUPERVISOR:                         MANAGER OF ENGINEERING

STATUS:                                 FULL-TIME/EXEMPT

THE MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

 

WORKS DIRECTLY WITH THE MANAGER OF ENGINEERING.

 

LEARNS STEBBINS' DESIGN METHODS.

 

BECOMES FAMILIAR WITH STEBBINS' DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS.

 

LEARNS STEBBINS' ESTIMATING PROCEDURES.

 

BECOMES FAMILIAR WITH STEBBINS' ENGINEERING COMPUTER PROGRAMS AND SYSTEM OPERATION.

 

WRITES, IMPLEMENTS AND MAINTAINS COMPUTER PROGRAMS AS INSTRUCTED BY THE MANAGER OF ENGINEERING.

 

BECOMES FAMILIAR WITH STEBBINS' DRAFTING PROCEDURES AND OBSERVES PRESENT SYSTEM.  MAKES CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENTS AS NECESSARY.

 

PRESENTS NEW IDEAS AND METHODS TO THE MANAGER OF ENGINEERING.

 

BECOMES FAMILIAR WITH ALL OF STEBBINS' FUNCTIONS.

 

MAKES FIELD TRIPS AS REQUIRED.

 

HANDLES SPECIAL PROJECTS AS ASSIGNED BY THE MANAGER OF ENGINEERING.

 

PREPARES FOR AND OBTAINS NYS PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER LICENSE

 

  

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Must be able to follow prescribed office policies and procedures

and obey all safety rules.  Ability to maintain confidentiality of

sensitive and confidential information.  Maintain a business-like and

professional appearance in manner and attire. MUST BE ABLE TO TRAVEL ABROAD AND MAINTAIN A PASSPORT AND VISAS AS REQUIRED.

 

EDUCATION:  BACHELORS DEGREE IN CIVIL ENGINEERING WITH GENERAL

BUSINESS, MATH, AND COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE

 

EXPERIENCE:  ABLE TO READ BLUEPRINTS, INTERPRET DRAWINGS, COMPUTER

EXPERIENCE, AND GENERAL CONSTRUCTION METHODS.

 

EQUIPMENT USED:    COMPUTER, COPY MACHINE, CALCULATOR, TELEPHONE,

FAX MACHINE, PRINT MACHINE, PLOTTER, SCANNER.

 

ANTICIPATED TRAINING PERIOD:  12 - 48 MONTHS

 

JOB DEMANDS:  SITTING, STANDING, WALKING, HEARING, SEEING, LIFTING,

CARRYING, PUSHING, PULLING, CLIMBING, KNEELING, REACHING, MEMORY,

ALERTNESS, PROBLEM SOLVING, MATH ABILITY, SPEAKING ABILITY,

FINGER/HAND DEXTERITY, BENDING, WORKING IN EXCESS OF REGULAR WORK

WEEK, WORKING WITH PUBLIC, MEETING DEADLINES, TELEPHONE CONTACT,

READING, TRAVELING.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:  WORK IS PERFORMED IN AN OFFICE ENVIRONMENT AND

 ALSO ON CONSTRUCTION JOB SITES.  THERE IS CONTACT WITH THE ENTIRE

OFFICE AND FIELD STAFF AND GENERAL PUBLIC.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:  RESPONSIBLE FOR TIMELY AND ACCURATE COMPLETION

OF ALL ASSIGNED DUTIES.

 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATION:  ACQUIRE APPLICABLE WORK EXPERIENCE TO

OBTAIN A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING LICENSE.  MUST BE IN POSSESSION OF A

N.Y.S. INTERN ENGINEER CERTIFICATE OR BE CAPABLE OF OBTAINING ONE

WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT.
